In this post, I will argue why people who are more reflexive, open to diverse perspectives, and cognitively flexible need to invest extra time in self-care and "switching off."
While I identify with person B, this reads reductive into what is in person A's mind, or how they came to the conclusion to "fire Jacqueline". Yes you place the disclaimers. To me it still reads as a binary explanation of perspectives, one of which is binary thinking.
"Fire Jacqueline" is a context that invites sympathy to the B side. But decisions have to be made in all sorts of contexts, for example decide color pattern of advertising banner, or what food to serve at an event. Folks try to learn all sorts of concepts and practices to create focus and get to decisions quicker. It doesn't always show on the outside. Love the introduction of the topic though. And big fan of your newsletter.
This post is full of so much wisdom and insight. Thank you so much for sharing it and helping me to put into words things I've seen and experienced. You totally rock!! And, yes, I would also love tips on how more reflexive people can switch off. Thanks again!
I’m with Vini - how do you switch it off? The great irony of being that B person is I have to deliberate on if it’s a good time to switch off and what adverse effects will happen if I do.
I completely resonate with this post. If your true nature is similar to Person B, can you switch it off? I have often been told that I think too much or am too much in my head or accused of “taking sides” when I try to see and understand another’s perspective. It is draining and one does need to balance the mental load and be mindful of self care. If this is your nature it will not be just in your professional life but personal as well. In relations with family and friends. I think it would not be uncommon to find such people in peace making, strategic, and facilitating roles.
Reflexive thinkers should take more breaks to maintain clarity and avoid burnout. With services like CV Editing Services Adelaide https://adelaideresumewriters.com/cv-editing, professionals can also ensure their resumes reflect their best selves during job searches.
I have had to learn to build and maintain boundaries. This also hurts and takes energy. Even the sustainability measures cost.

This is a bit what I was getting at with "B^2-side" thinking.
Yes, Person A may be deploying all sorts of heuristics and approaches to facilitate quick decision making.

Ha, as an (untrained) person B, my first thought was also “How do I turn it off?”
My second thought was “.. or get better at it?”
