I always tell my clients not just to disconfirm their oversimplified view of the past, but to use this disappointment as a reminder that the world of the present is more complex (in the Cynefin sense) than we think: our future selves are going to shake their heads at our foolishness today. Crypto and WeWork seemed like the bee's knees to some very clever people not so long ago, and the lesson isn't that they were dumb but that we're no smarter in our current views.
