Break
I’m taking a two-week break! I’ve been writing nearly twice a week in 2023 and need to pace myself (or learn how to schedule posts 😊). It was a good run of 186 consecutive weeks of writing, and I appreciate your support.
Here are some old posts that might be of some interest.
TBM 12/52: The Basics
I’m not a process freak, but I do believe teams should have their house in order. You can get by with very little process overhead. Too many teams are spinning in circles (or sprints). It often isn’t their fault, but still…the level of reactivity is so draining.
TBM 6/52: Inputs First. Bets Next
Many teams start with a list of opportunities, features, problems, or ideas. And then tack on success metrics, initiative KPIS, OKRs, or whatever to each thing. Work —> Goal This causes problems. TBM 27/52: Mandate Levels
Good news! I'm writing another book for Amplitude as a follow-up to the North Star Playbook. If you have 3-5 minutes to spare, I'd be grateful if you could contribute a short anecdote about a change effort. Thanks! It will help us make the book more accessible.
TBM 36/52: Looking at Example Boards
In this post I am going to try something a bit different. I am going to: Share boards inspired by real world teams (I see lots of boards) Share what I see in the boards Share links to what people on Twitter see in the boards Invite you to chime in on the Twitter thread(s)
TBM 203: Fixing Messy Problems
Note: This post is meant to be an accessible entry point into a discussion about complexity, complex systems, etc. I draw heavily on ideas from Dave Snowden, Donella Meadows, Gareth Morgan, Dana Mackenzie, Judea Pearl, etc. I’m by…
